Non-model summer painting

Post by Halgebra_A6N » Thu Jul 04, 2019 3:56 am

Here’s my ongoing summer project in lieu of starting another model... I’m taking a watercolor painting class at a community art school down the street. It’s every Wednesday evening for 10 weeks; tonight was session 3 of 10.
The teacher is starting us out with exercises that will help us learn to work with water and learn how different water color pigments behave on paper: color wheels, shadows/highlights, still life, etc.

Each week we are stepping things up, from monochromatic:

To dichromatic (today):

It can be frustrating learning new techniques, especially when paint doesn’t move around on a surface the way I’m used to! But I am enjoying it so far ;)

I have not worked with watercolor in decades.

I had never seriously worked with it before! My painting experience is almost entirely acrylics, and oil-based model painting.

I took traditional art classes. So I have some background in flat stuff and water colors, but what? 4 decades ago? Looking at your work is bring it back.
