Shark vs. 1/350 Polar lights K't'inga Klingon Battlecruiser

Post by Shark » Fri Jan 04, 2019 6:36 pm

Hi all!

This is my first full out build-up in a while; it was a (fairly) enjoyable build with only a few hiccups along the way. (Incorrectly numbered parts, the engines being at the wrong angle, etc.) Unlike most builders, I decided to paint mine as it was seen on screen rather than how the model was painted and looked to the naked eye. I went with a base coat of Tamiya gray primer and used a few custom blends for the various panels, topped off with Tamiya german gray for some of the dark areas on the neck and primary hull.

I'll start by showing some of my reference; screen-cap from the film:

Well, that's all folks!

No lights this time? The hand reveals those that have not seen one in person what a beast thing thing is.

It's a different approach. The K't'ginga leaving the ship yard look. One assumes the Klingons don't beat them up while building and they enjoy at least a brief time in pristine shape. I like it. It also assumes that like themselves scars are a mark of honor for a ship. As long as function is not sacrificed.

I can't afford to light my models, I could barely afford to buy the kit. Looking at the screen-grabs the ship doesn't appear overly weathered, I know the actual model was weathered, but as I said in my post my model is built to replicate how the ship looked on-screen; I'm replicating the ship, not the filming model.

I don't light either. Instead of seldom finished my models would be never finished.

Looking good . Love the New Look. . I am waiting for this kit to be released in the UK. It looks like It is going to be February. I would have imported it but I had already paid for my order. I have 3 kits on order with lighting.Hoping to do them in a row with a V'ger Cloud in the background. Can't wait.

Thank you! Three huh? That's going to be quite an impressive and massive display! Pay close attention to the instruction sheet and make sure you dry fit the parts because the instruction sheet has a few parts incorrectly numbered, specifically around the windows on the 'bulb' section. Also, my window decals are completely off, you should check those as well before applying.

I look forward to seeing your build. :)

Very nice, Shark.

I haven't seen a K't'inga in gray tones before. I like it - nice take, and execution.

I'd like to see some shots of it under some spacey dramatic lighting. Looks great!
