USS Fawkes, Nebula Class Type A, DONE! [PIC HEAVY]

Post by scaddude » Fri Oct 19, 2018 11:05 pm

And done! The USS Fawkes, NCC-60382, Nebula Class Type A. This was named after Dumbledore's phoenix from Harry Potter.

This kit is definitely my frankenship. It is comprised of three different kits: The saucer and nacelles are from the Enterprise-D kit by AMT. The secondary hull and warp pylons are from the Warp Models Farragut conversion kit, and the AWAC dish and its pylons are from... I don't really know. I thought it was a Macro Trek kit but that design is different from this one. I bought a conversion kit on Ebay a decade ago. The secondary hull and nacelle pylons for it were all wrong, and I had started to convert the AMT pylons, but then realized I had a spare Warp kit (I'm a pack rat), so just went with that.

The work was fun. I sanded down all the raised gridlines because I like to torture myself. I also tried to match the filming model a little (and more to experiment), but filling in the impulse drives on the saucer, and by filling all but two of the inset windows on the lower half of the saucer.

As for color, base coat is airbrushed Model Masters Light Ghost Grey. I achieved the Aztec pattern by using the Acreation On-Screen Grey decals for the Enterprise-D. I experimented with the defletor dish to get that nice glow effect by painting it with Vallejo Electric Blue, then hitting it with Vallejo Wood for the surrounding area. I'm so happy with it, I wanna do the same to my Enterprise-D. The phasers are using the PNT phaser decals. The AWAC dish is using an Aztec pattern I made into decals. I had a long struggle trying to figure out why my homemade decals changed color, and it turns out I just had ink that didn't react well to the bonding spray. The rest of the decals are by JT Graphics, with the custom names and registry made by Richard Rayl, aka Novahobbies.

That's a lovely build. Great detailing. Love the deflector dish glow you achieved. Congratulations! Well done!
