P/Review AMT Romulan Warbird, 2019 Reissue. FInal Thoughts and pictures on page 2

Post by Steam235 » Sat Jan 19, 2019 4:19 am

Round2 is re-issuing the Romulan Warbird. This was originally part of the Adversary model set in the early 1990's. Round2 has added decals to the kit for all of the distinctive windows on the D'Deridex class ship. They've also included a dome base.

The box art is inline with all recent releases, this time accented in red for TNG and Captain picard is featured on the box. The box art also fetures Deanna Troi, giving a quote of hers, and calling out the episode "Face of the Enemy" where Troi goes on a covert mission with the Romulans.

The parts breakdown is pretty simple, only 20 pieces. The Instructions only have 4 steps. The parts look pretty clean, well pressed and no flash.

I'll be very excited to see how the decals look once I finish the model. The decals provide all of the windows for the ship.

I've also put up a few short videos showing the kit's box art and breakdown of parts.

Do they state a scale for the beast?

As would many of us. For something less than a King's ransom.

You really can't avoid the fact that this is an older kit The sprue is attached to the hull pieces with large inch long attachemnt points, you'll need to be very careful when you trim them.

The head of the warbird, is done in two parts, split vertically. The seem across the front fits pretty well. Some light sanding will smooth that out well.

The back and bottom of the head is a different story. Many of the stair step details will need to be filed and sanded before they'll match up.

I"m very happy with the seams across the front of the main hull sections, and where the hull parts meet.

Big gaps where the head and tail meet the body. These will take quite a bit of putty.

I've been experimenting with painting the white streaks across this ship. Here are a few shots of my first attempt. I painted my base color, then layed down some white streaks with my airbrush and then misted the base coat over it again.

I've made a short youtube video if you'd like to see how I did it.

The paint method works nicely. Fit and finish issues? AMT to the max.

I have one of these beast in the stash. I've considered bashing it to a different design in 1/2500

There are no color suggestions or paint call outs for this kit.
