Well here it is, the USS Discovery in 1:2500 scale.

The kit looks fantastic!

We're going to be putting most of this build on the YouTube channel, and here's the first video. In this video we look at the box art, decals and the plastic sprues.

If you take a look at the channel, you'll also see two videos about the paint colors I've chosen to use on the kit.

To start off we have some sprue pics. Tomorrow I'll get some parts of the sprues and see how they fit. I'll also get some pictures of the decals.

Will be following this with great interest as I plan to get one and just say it's 1400 to fit in with my other ships sizes.

I wish PL/Round2 would stop supplanting detail with wallpaper decals, I f-ing hate wallpaper decals. Other than that the kit looks nice. I was hoping someone at AST would review this kit.

Today I was able to take the parts off of the trees and lay them out to show how they'll go together. Here are some pictures showing how the sub assemblies are broken out. Tomorrow morning I should have a video on you tube showing a dry fitting.

Alright I wanted to make sure I posted this on the forum before YouTube or Facebook...

But I am lighting this kit !!

Polar Lights / Round2 have done a great job on this kit, I wish more of the 1:2500 kits had clear parts, and it gave me the opportunity to put in some LEDs.

I think the kit will look good whether you light it or not, but with the discovery having some unique lit parts, like those long thin blue strips on the nacelles I wanted to see what it would be like to light it.

So first thing I did was to carefully measure and plan out my lighting. I soldered about 8 prewired LEDs to two wires that I will put down the hole for the kit's stand and then connect to a 9 volt battery. I used clear blue paint to tint the four bulbs that would go in the nacelles, and the one behind the deflector dish. and clear red for the ones behind the impulse engines. one bulb was left clear for the bridge dome.

Now to get it to fit the kit does need a few modifications.

In the nacelles, you have to clip the first three locator pins.

You have to drill a hole through the top of the spine, into the top of the hull.

In the engineering hull, you need to clip the locator pin right behind the deflector dish. Cut out an opening where the clear red impulse part will sit. use a file to carve a trench for the wires to the nacelles. and finally cut part of the big tab that fits into the nacelle. Don't cut all of the tab you'll need some of it left for a glueing surface for the nacelle.

For the saucer I cut out the parts that fit inside the neck and spine. these parts are hidden inside the neck and spine parts.

After all that was done I glued the blue LEDs into the warp nacelles.

Then I glued the three LEDs that sit in the engineering hull into place.

I fit the spine on top of it, once again making sure the LED came out the top.

Then I put the top of the engineering hull on, making sure that the bulb for the bridge was coming out the top of it.

Then I put the saucer on and then put the final part of the spin over the bulb.
