Returning from the darkness.... NEW 2500 Kits! (Achilles Class)

Post by Resin-Modeller » Sun Jan 20, 2019 9:50 pm

Hi all,

Just wanted to say hi properly again what seems like a long time of hiatus. Lots of new faces which is great and glad to see regulars still populating threads. Loving the ships and eye candy and have recently started working on the Venture from MVM and tarting up some of my old builds over the past few months.

One ship I still would love in my cabinet is the Achilles from Dominion War game. I did start a kit ages ago but looking at the model now, having used new techniques to build up the Akira and Voyager along with prep work for the Equinox, decided that if I was gonna return to 2500/1400 modeling then I wanted something big, something with a bit of OMG and something with a bit of a kick that could potentially make the centre piece of a persons collection.

So.....

Firstly.... I'M BACK!

Secondly.... The Achilles is under construction!

Now in the game, the Achilles is essencially a battle armoured tank which has multiple torpedo launchers, pulse and phaser canons and a blative hull armour. The length of which is comparable to the Sovereign Class.

Now here is the ship scaled to the Sovereign Class using the 'canon' specs for her:

Now... there has been debate that rather than a 'dreadnought' the ship if smaller to the size of like an Akira maybe better suited. Here it is at a comparable length to the First Contact family of ships:

So just wanted a sea of hands to see if anyone wants an Achilles in their fleet, and opinions on dimension. Should it be Cruiser sized, or Heavy Battleship/Flagship sized.

If you want to see what the ship will look like eventually:

I’d love one in my fleet, ships should be small cruiser sized (voyager sized IMO) to be as nimble as it is

Depending on how the parts are cast.
I would definitely be interested in 1 if not more?

Dimentions maybe as long as the Ent-D

I would buy at least two if you release it. I like the bigger size version.

Cool, so that's a possible 3 - 4 kits :) many thanks for your support. No idea on cost yet as I haven't done a test print, due to the size I'm cramming as much detail into this as possible. Don't want 2500 kits of similar size looking amazing, then the Achilles sat there as smooth as an androids bottom if that makes sense! So whatever the cost, it'll be worth it!

Did a couple hours fine tuning detail and building some more:

Now on the in game model and illustration interpretation, these arrow heads on the nose are just bland, plane hull plates. In terms of spicing the Achilles up, I'm thinking perhaps more like that of the Voyager Sensor nodes, she has on her saucer for them instead? Just wanted to get some feedback.

...are the areas I refer too.

I would definitely take one. I also was pretty much out of commission for most of last year once my mother developed brain related difficulties post-surgery in March, and I even cancelled my annual trip to WonderFest and got someone else to take my vendor table. She's almost made a full recovery now, so I'm also going to be poking in here now and then. Sorry about the Voyager variants I promised, but I was severely side-tracked. I was hoping that you'd eventually get the Achilles completed. It's such an elegant design. Nice to see it now back in progress, and also that you're back too. ;)

I would stick some detailing in the arrowheads to make it stand out a little. Either some pipework or sensors of some sort.

Spent this evening adding sensor nodes using elements from Voyager to give it some lineage :)

Undecided...

Glad she's made a recovery. Voyager variants are fine, I haven't even made up the ships you sent me lol! Though if you want some commitments taken off your hands, I'd happily build the Prometheus in 2500 :P

End of the day this is a labour of love for all and we do because its a hobby and escape, if something in the 'real world' happens then rightfully that takes presidency.
