Kongo 10455

Post by Tesral » Mon Apr 23, 2018 2:09 am

I know, I need yet another project.

Time to give this one some love. It has been sitting bare as a jay bird far too long as the last attempt at painting it was a total failure. Most of the work will be spray and decals. Yo, Meatloaf! Then again maybe I should try designing and printing my own. I have lots of paper.

As the ship is a major rebuild I am not tied to the look of the Ambassador as seen. I can be totally different. In some places I have to be.

A bow top view. You can see the remains of the last failed paint job.

A stern view showing off the replacement pylons and nacelles. Big secret, the saucer has never been glued on.

Side view showing the one of two covers for the twin warp cores.

And a top down shot that show off the nacelles nicely.

When you put your hands on it. I was going to glue it, but in looking I had not sanded down the filler on the bottom seam of all things. And there was still a dimple in the secondary hull from the old stand location.

Out comes the sticks and putty.

Oops!

Those are good looking pylons. Nice job on those !

Did you adjust where the neck meets the saucer or did you simply sand off the part that sticks out?

All Sanding Trek. Yes I shortened it. I thought it looked awkward.

I had to add more putty to that dimple. Some of these things are like eternal potholes, no matter how much you fill....

Another thing you will never see. I filled the secondary hull with resin. It gives it a bit of weight and it is easier to drill that stand hole I like.

I ran the Kongo down to the paint booth for priming. Tomorrow base coat.

You must've built it air tight if you filled the hull with resin

Yes sir. The stuff will find every leak, like it did with the E-D I did the same thing with. I ended up doing the nacelles on the E-D one half at a time as I would have had to make a hole to pour the stuff in. But the secondary hull leaked like political promises.

I did better with this one.

Base coat in progress.

Up from base coat. Now the work starts.

Side view.

Stern. That...gap. Well before posting this I filled it. A little touch up and it will never be seen again.

And the ventral view. No divot.

The last couple of weeks have been bad for modeling. Not really bad in general. But my modeling has taken a hit.

So some intermediate pictures I would not normally post. A few touches of metallic.

Some gold for the bridge. Not touched up yet. I have not decided what goes around that. I have determined that this is not getting the usual Ambassador decal set. A cleaner less colorful look.
10445-11.png
The Stern, silver for the impulse engine to vanish under clear red and the hanger bay which will stay silver. The camera grabbed the neck for focus.
10445-12.png
And the deflector dish. This gets some clear blue.
10445-13.png
So stuff I would not normally post. I am still alive.
