Steal away. I use that trick when I reshape the TOS Enterprise's B/C deck into a teardrop shape. I also used it when I built my Jeffery's concept Klingon battlecruiser. I removed the bridge superstructure that came with the old Space Ship Set Klingon Battlecruiser and substituted it with a cloned bridge superstructure from the Cadet Set

Here's an update on the "unrefit" of the Excelsior class Enterprise B:

Also, the neck was cut out from a Galaxy for saucer separation with a VA Miniatures battlehead. CAUTION -- the curve on the underside of the saucer is about 1/4 inch more removed than the actual battlehead size!

Also started making preparations for an "All Good Things" Galaxy refit using carefully cut thick sprue for the pylon fins (making my own extra bits using plastic/extra model parts):
