Charger class build

Post by Halgebra_A6N » Sun Mar 03, 2019 12:46 am

Here are some pics of another smallish build project - the Charger class. I purchased this years ago from Ravenstar Studios, but now it’s brought to you by MVM.
I over-scored the points on the main hill where the weapons pod will go, so had to do some filling with 2-part epoxy before priming. A couple more coats and little fills, and I’m now doing the detail work...

Lookin' real nice! I used to have one of these, too; not sure what I did with it. It's a neat little design!

Thanks! Looks to me like it hails from that early-to-mid 24th century design style. Sort of a transition between the movie era ships and TNG.

You know, on the one hand, these non-canon fan designed ships are fun because there's no rules on how you can paint and detail them. But that's also the biggest problem, because I fret incessantly over deciding what to do with the canvas. I like your choices on accent colors.

By any chance, are you the same Hal who I just sent Charger decals to in an envelope?

Yessir, I’m the same Hal!

Figuring out the color scheme is part of the fun for me. I like trying to find that balance between a creative look and keeping it within feasible Trek-era design standards.

Del, I was using your MVM product pics as a painting guide too. It helped me decide how to do the details and kept me from over-painting every little greeble on the ship.

Here is the completed Charger class ship, the USS Brazen!
Decals are mostly standard issue for this kit, supplemented with with some extras I had on hand. The grid lines on this ship are extremely faint, so I tried to fill in some of the dorsal white space with lifeboats arranged around the colored hull panels. I tried to do sort of a “symmetrical asymmetry” thing with them.

The last pic is the original instruction sheet from Ravenstar. Based on that, it looks like the nacelles are attached with the grilles facing up? So on my kit, I attached them as seen in MVM but did the weapons pod in the Ravenstar style. I took the best of both worlds. ;)

Thanks for posting the instruction sheet. I've never seen that before, and just built mine the way I thought it should be. Glad to see you finished yours.
