USS Appalachia finished

Post by SKO »

This was a tough build! I twice had to strip her back down in simple green bc I thought I had the mold release off but didn't, and the weird angles are a pain to mask. It's not my best work. The windows blurred when I clear coated even though I've used this pen for windows before and never had that issue. Still I'm glad it's done anyway

That looks great.

I never usually clear coat any of my models for fear of that happening, what paint/processes do you use?

I usually paint everything and do windows last with a pen, then I wait at least 48 hours before adding a gloss coat. Usually the ink doesn't run but if it does I just retouch, let dry, and clear coat again and usually the second coat the ink doesn't run at all. Then I add decals and do a dull coat to finish and seal. This is the first time I had ink run on me after using the two coat process

Thanks, are you using an airbrush to clear coat? I may start doing it next time round.

So just like my Akira this one has put into spacedock for refit. She's almost done unfortunately I accidentally bumped one panel that was still soaked in setting solution and she tangled up and was ruined. So here she is complete other than the missing panel which is on its way
