I've always wanted to make my interpretation of the USS Lalo, the freighter assimilated by the Borg in "Best of Both Worlds". To do this, I used the same componentry that Ed Miarecki used for his kit bashes and his design aesthetics. The 2 huge pods are made from toothbrush travel holders. Whilst I still have to seal the small holes on either ends of the pods and affix the impulse engines, the ship is basically done.
I took inspiration from the Freedom and Miranda classes for its' design. I was going to put the nacelles where the pods are located but I didn't want it to look too much like the USS Melbourne...
Enjoy.

Very nice work Paul, I don't know where you get all the time to do such incredible scratch builds, but I wish I had it too.

On average I spend 2 hrs a night working on whatever the project is. Each scratchbuild takes me about 3 weeks from start to finish - I have the process refined enough to achieve a quick turn around timeframe.. oh and I don't have any kids.I don't know where you get all the time to do such incredible scratch builds, but I wish I had it too.

Re: The ill-fated USS Lalo
I wish we'd seen more federation freighters and civilian ships in trek. I've kind of always wondered exactly how civilian ships work in the federation. We see enough evidence that the Vulcans basically maintain their own fleet of vessels for various purposes, do planets have pretty much free reign to do whatever they want with their own ships in federation borders? Is private ship ownership allowed? Where'd those maquis raiders (that are clearly federation tech) even come from?

Not at the moment...I'm taking a break from all modelling projects.
