I personally dislike JJ-verse ship designs-- but I can appreciate a great looking build nonetheless! Keep going!

It's starting to look like a starship. Got the secondary hull finished tonight, along with most of the primary hull aztecs.
Oh well. Better a little slower and done well than rushed and sloppy at the very last minute.
These wallpaper decals are laying down very nicely. Look at the center decal in this next picture. It's all one piece, and I made a couple cuts along the sides of the four sensor nodes about halfway up so the inner parts of the decals could lay down a little better. But I still applied at all as one piece. Even before the Micro-sol, it conformed to some very complex curves surprisingly well. After the micro-sol, it settled in like it was meant to be there. (These decals shouldn't be photographed in macro mode, but I wanted you to see how well they were settling.)
Some more of the saucer:
And the saucer top:
I still have a good few more days of work left to do on this bad boy, and that's not even counting the work for the stand. I was hoping to have this done by the time I went out of town on Friday night, but sadly I don't think it's meant to be.

♥!
There are Times, Sir, when men of good Conscience cannot blindly follow orders. You acknowledge their sentience, but ignore their personal liberties and freedoms. Order a man to hand over his child to the state? Not while I"m captain.

Andy, you ought to. I already know your build would blow mine right out of the water, and I'd love to watch it happen.andyh wrote:Luv it, Luv it, Luv it. I have resisted buying this kit, but I'm having second thoughts now

So.....the decals are done. No, the model build isn't actually completed, but the decals are done. I still need to dulcote (maybe a semigloss??), trim a couple decals, and then drill thru the paint to reveal the saucer rim windows. And of course, finish the stand which is still in its infancy. But all that can be done next week. I'm heading out of town to visit my mum tomorrow afternoon for the weekend, so we're done for this week. Of course I snapped photos. To wit:

Back from Rockledge, FL. Got a little more work done on her tonight. I laid down 2 coats of semigloss over the decals, did the final painting on the base, and started the wiring for the LEDs that will be in the base aiming UP at the model.
I'm not 100% happy with the work I did on the base, to be honest. It's the first time I tried a couple techniques, and.....well, it's a "first try" look. It's as good as it's going to get, however, and I don't have the time or energy to devote to another one on the deadline I have. Oh well. Next time maybe.
Tomorrow will be the final coat of semi-gloss. I'm thinking of mixing in some pearl powder to that last coat....what do you think? Interesting idea, or way over-doing it? Haven't decided myself yet. Hopefully I'll have time to do the final wiring tomorrow night and cut the slot for the female power connector in the base. After that, the only thing left to do is drill out those saucer rim windows.....and take some photos of the finished product!
