AST 1/1000 Defiant Kit preview (part 2) - Out Of Box Build!

Not much to show on it today, I gave it a shot of mr surface tonight

I got a little time today to work on this today, but not much as to what else needs to be done:

Base coats on the clear buzzard collectors and warp exhaust vents




Also a coat on tot he neck pipes:

I’m going to have to look at the filming model photo’s to see how these go, not much direction on how they fit -

Sanded the hull half’s to smooth that seam line:






Also fixed the glue seepage from the cowling:



Going to give the model another scrub to clean and give it another coat of paint tomorrow

Hopefully Sunday/Monday I’ll start placing decals on her.

I like the size of the model - unfortunately the filming model had the magical size shifting abilities curse, but thankfully they didn't go with the smallest size that they used for the battle with the Lakota

I'm watching with interest here. While not a kit I'm likely to buy it is a nice kit and build.

Here’s a shot of it painted – just have a few details to paint, but getting the decals on tonight


Have the upper decals cut and laid out in general positions – ready to start applying

I have decal set working its magic on the decals – some might need a second application

Decals on the sides of the bridge have compound curves – along with the nose tip decal (I might need to trim it after drying)


The sand colored decals are opaque while the rest of the hull panel decals are transparent

While going thru the decal placement I found what my 2 missing parts were: I didn’t get the 2 swivel ball joint parts in my kit – the ones that allow you to display at any angle

Nice! I'm actually excited about this kit now. When It was first announced I was sort "it's kewel, I guess, and I'll buy one, but ONLY one". Now I DEFINITELY want to buy one.

Hopefully, these'll be available in the next two or so weeks. Thanks for the ongoing pics!

Got to work on the bottom decals tonight:

All that I plan on using cut and ready to go:

A couple of the decals from the top wrap around to the bottom of the ship


I have chosen to use the white windows included with the kit - they were nive to have black or white windoes to choose from



some of the detail decals will require some decal solvent – unfortunately my bottle was found empty in my paint box (I’ll have to pick some up this weekend)





One thing I can say for sure for everyone: make sure to have decal solvent if you plan on using them
