D-11 One-Wing Destroyer, IKS 'Etlh tIq
This 1/1000 scale kit, mastered by Scott Scariott and originally released by the Starship Modeler Kit Factory, is the D-11 One Wing. This kit will soon make its re-appearance from UGH! Models.
Interesting that the details appear to be based off the K'T'Inga panel lines. It's a... unique... design and one that has intrigued me since I first saw it in the ORIGINAL FASA Ship Recognition Manual - The Klingon Empire! back in 1983. And now I have one.
It's interesting that this view shows K'T'Inga-like panel lines. These first three pics are from that first release.
This is from the second release.
Pieces/parts!
Dry fitting of parts. These have a nice, tight fit.
There's not a very big opening for the shuttles to land, especially when compared to the R2 D-7. I left the shuttle bay section off because of this.
Glued together and just had a nice, relaxing, lemon-scented bath.
Starting work on giving some height for the shuttle bay section.
And all is More Gooder now!
More to follow....

As work continued....
Putty everywhere!
"You got sumthin' growin' on yer neck...."
Lots of putting and sanding. Just a minor seam line, but mostly gone.

The primer stage!
I also added impulse engines. I went for more of a center of gravity than centerline area for their positioning. These are WAVE Option System parts, designed for BANDAI Gundam kits.
First coat of primer, plus re-scribing some of the lines. I had hit it a little too thick on the dorsal surface, so I had to go back I over it. In formation with a D-10 Riskadh.

The base coat on both the D-11 and D-10 is Tamiya rattlecan AS-2 Light Gray (IJN).
More to eventually come!

Never been too keen on this design, but you're giving it more than justice. The added parts make it more plausible, if that is possible in a universe that relies on universal translators, matter transporters and spacetime warpage

Interesting design. Makes me think that structural integrity wouldn't be great as there is no symmetry. Maybe warp capability would be less than normal. At least manoeuvrability wouldn't be an issue, well one way at least.
UGH! I thought I recognised that base. Maybe my order can wait a little longer.

Always thought this design was an odd duck. Just don't see the advantage to having one wing like that. Bizarro.

The D-11 One Wing:
Proof that even Klingon ship building companies suffer from budget cuts and design committee disagreements.
Still, in a turning fight, the D-11 was quite a dangerous adversary... As long as the fight turned to the right.
A follow up class division was planned but not built. It was supposedly cancelled due to more budget cuts and the "unexplained" deaths of the designers. It was to be known as the D-22 and would compensate for the shortcomings of the D11 by being a mirror image of the D-11 and most effective in a left hand turning fight. Klingon engineers, under the impression that they were tactical geniuses, described space battles with these ships as great counter rotating wheels of destruction.
There are some who say the project was canceled due to the unexplained death and disappearances of the designers. Fleet Procurement Director H'lari K'lintuhn was suspected of having somehing to do with the deaths, but no proof was ever found.

Sounds like the left-wingers and right-wingers just couldn't get along.Hossfly72 wrote:The D-11 One Wing:

Sounds familiar.

The Klingons are known for their "intense" political struggles.. add in a committee designed ship and all sorts of interesting things will happen.
I like it though. I was always a fan of the Fasa designs, since they really were my first introduction to ships other than the original three seen in TOS. I'd like to get a D-11.
