AMT 1/537 Enterprise Refit

Post by KevinHoggard » Mon Mar 19, 2018 2:15 pm

Hi all,

Waiting for Decals from HDA for this, but here it is so far. Control Board from TenaControls. This was somewhat a hard kit, nothing really fit well, and I kinda suck at seams :)

LOL, and I didn't even reinforce them either. I did use a very thick coat of 5 min epoxy though. I keep looking at them to see if they start drooping, nothing yet... so here's hoping!!!

Decals came in yesterday and started working on them

I had one of these. It was the Lights and Sounds kit that AMT sold thru the mail years ago. Came with a different base (with switches) and included GOW bulbs for flashers and window lights. A lever made either a photon torpedo or phaser firing sound. I built it years ago when I was just getting back into modelling after a long layoff. Painted it battleship grey! It was godawful but I kept it around to remind myself how far I've come since then. It fell off the shelf and broke into pieces recently so now it's remains reside in a cardboard box in my attic.
Anyway, enough about my busted model, your build is looking nice.
It's amazing your engines don't droop, one of mine broke off and was never quite level after I reattached it.

Looking forward to seeing your Refit with her decals on.

They have only been glued on since Sunday.... I'm hoping the thick epoxy will hold it.

I'm a total novice to these, but in general I'm not a rivet counter. If it looks close... good enough for me. Like the coloring, for the life of me I couldn't find the light blue color (I'm really bad at mixing colors too). The duck egg blue I thought would work didn't, it was way too light on the pearl white. I went with a German #65, more green than I wanted but overall happy with it.

Find a good color mixing guide. Others have done the work, benefit from it.

I did find a couple of guides, it's the whole 1 part light blue, 7 parts white that has me stumped :)

use a dropper to drop one drip of each or however many it says. If you don't have a dropper then dip an offcut of sprue in the paint.
If you use Vallejo paints they have a dropper on the bottle anyway and so do some others. Humbrol and Revell mini jars (12ml) just have lids so there a piece of sprue will help. then I just mixed them on a cleaned butter tub lid with a little water to stop it drying up too quick.

How about mixing for an airbrush? So if I use, say a medicine dropper, just make that a "part"? If I am getting this correct. Using my example above - 1 full dropper light blue, and 7 full droppers of white. Would that be correct?

Either a full dropper or just a drip. but yes the idea is the same.
