Re: The Orville
What are your thoughts on the heavy cruiser, the USS Olympia
I've seen some negative comments that say it looks too much like an enlarged version of The Orville but I like it that it follows the same design philosophy. Hope they feature more ships of the fleet and different designs, roles etc.

Re: The Orville
I like it for the same reason you do: it follows a similar design philosophy. Why should we expect it to be totally different?

Re: The Orville
As long as they don't rescale the exact same model, I'm fine.

Okay, who caught last night’s ep? It was just damned good fun. I’m really digging the chemistry the cast has, and, well, Alara ... let’s just say I’m crushing pretty hard.
Was also great fun to see Robert Picardo again!

Re: The Orville
I recently watched it on Hulu (I had a long vacation break and hurt my foot, so I only had passive activities) -- I was a latecomer (I did not catch the show as it was aired) due to low expectations, predicting a typical Seth Macfarlane parody kind of show with crude hit-or-miss humor. It did have some of that in the beginning, but it has progressed to mostly drama, action and some thought-provoking storytelling. I was pleasantly surprised that it has been done in a more professional way. I would say that other shows have better production values (sets, costumes, special effects, etc.), but I generally enjoy the plots on this show (& there have been recognizable -- sometimes unrecognizable -- guest stars). Things don't wrap up with a nice bow and there are some unexpected twists. I watched the first 2 seasons a little while back and have caught up on season 3 on Hulu so far. It has a lot of nostalgia not just to Trek but to 80s and earlier music, events, etc. that younger people would not recognize or resonate with. There's also a lot of recognizable actors - Sisko's girlfriend, Norm Macdonald, holographic doctor, Dr Phlox, Tuvok, Troi, Ted Danson, Rob Lowe, Chalize Theron, Liam Neeson, Bruce Willis, numerous others, etc. Some characters distantly remind me of Trek characters (Isaac for Data, Bortus for Worf, etc.). Some plots as well (people not realizing they are on board a space ship, crew losing inhibitions, etc.).
The family splurged for Disney plus -- Mandalorian have been very good (IMHO) so far. I also enjoyed Kenobi but was a little less impressed with Boba Fett. You also get all the Marvel stuff, like Loki, Hawkeye, WandaVision, Falcon & Winter Soldier, Moonknight, etc. More off the track, I enjoy "The Boys", wife likes "See" and there's some new GoT stuff coming soon. I don't usually have time for all this stuff, so I've got to pick my poison.
