Disclaimer: My comments, however serious they may seem are "tongue, firmly in cheek", and should NEVER be taken as an attack to those that would have differing views. Think "observational stand up comic" having a rant. With that in mind, please feel free to reply and/or post your own pet peeves.

1) Overuse of the word "awesome". I can accept kids saying it, but now everyone is seemingly substituting perfectly good words for "awesome". For everything! I love the English language. I might be all over the place grammatically at times, but I'd consider myself a bit of a wordy snob. Why has this happened and can it be stopped?

Some "awesome" synonyms: Awe-inspiring, striking, amazing, stunning, wonderful, impressive, magnificent, astonishing, terrific, breathtaking, majestic, solemn, wondrous, jaw-dropping and stupefying.

Why can't a burger be "great", a movie be "breathtaking" and good news "wonderful"? Why is everything "awesome"? I forgive kids and teenagers, but "adults" IMO should break this "trend".

2) Facebook and Twitter. They are no longer websites, having seeped into our everyday lives. A quasi-religion. If we as a collective do not post, like, tweet, retweet, like again, tag, poke and worship at the Alter of TwitBook, our own kin look down at us and think something must be wrong.

Once upon a time, we has sites like these and they were new, quirky, trendy things to try and talk to your friends about. I remember when sites like Ebay and Amazon caught on. Then the glowing embers of social networking started with sites like My Space and You Tube. Again, quirky and fun. Not something the world would judge you by if you weren't "plugged in".

My fear isn't the power these sites have over a Billion individuals. It is the "Unimatrix" hive mindset people have willingly accepted. How did they get a billion people to not care about their privacy to the point of posting Anything, posting, liking any/all drivel, acting like giddy teens with the need to keep stoking the fire for fear of being brow beaten by peer pressure? There are various degrees of Twitbook insanity, and not all are like this. In my everyday life, THIS is what I deal with. IMO, if so many people can be transformed into drones with a "Unimatrix" hive mindset, then I fear for our species.

3) Losing the art of communication. We're now more "connected" than ever via social media and the multitude of gizmo's available. Yet somehow, a really bad trend (that perhaps started with cell texting) of truncating sentences set in. Some might argue that it was logical to do so and "trendy". However, somewhere along the way a lot of us seemed to have lost the ability to communicate (not just talk) with other people. To convey in concise of exacting detail how you feel. To listen to the other person, process what they're saying and establish that meeting of minds.

My wife told me the other day she needed to contact another family member about an issue. A good old fashioned phone call would have done the trick, but when I asked her later if the situation had been resolved she said "yes, posted on their FB, they'll get back to me later on". I love my wife, and to make it crystal clear, WE communicate fantastically well. Unfortunately, she (like so many others) prefers communication via texting, FB updates and "Tweets".

Doesn't matter as long as you "Like" me and follow me on Twitter

This. +1 in Google+* parlance. We have friends, started with the husband and quickly adopted by his wife, who say "That's awesome" to everything. Got a raise? "That's awesome." Finished with yard work just in time to catch the game? "That's awesome." Had a sandwich for lunch? "That's awesome." Mother in law in town to visit? "That's awesome." Took out a sliver in your thumb? "That's awesome." Cleaned the litter boxes? "That's awesome."

No, nothing's awesome if everything is. Look up the word "awesome." It means you are dumbstruck at the wonderment before you. If it's, at best, only "good" but you consider it "awesome," then you are easily amused.

My friends, and others, use "That's awesome" as shorthand for something else. Why not use other sayings to acknowledge that you are actively listening to the other person? "Glad to hear it," "Cool," "Good for you."

"That's awesome"? Drives me bats.

* Google+ is/was an experiment to combine all sorts of stuff into one site. The end result is *crickets*

I am tired of portmanteaus involving the form "man-something"; I.E. mancave, manfood etc.. They are stupid, unnecessary and frankly come across as condescending. So enough. Don't use them, don't make more, don't spread the stupid. I don't need to make a list or condemn then one by one. I'm not going to spend the time and effort to seethe and be catty about it as is so popular with come bloggers. Enough.

I am firmly annoyed by folks in blogs not mentioning their motivations.

"My Brother Gary won't eat DQ ice cream because...reasons,'.

HUH??? What are those reasons? Am I supposed to be a mind reader? What punctuation marks are necessary to convey the gravity of a situation?

How am I supposed to know if someone is typing from the heart or being snide?

One that hit me at the pet store yesterday: The Incredible Shrinking Product. The dog food went from being a 20 lb bag to a 17 lb bag to a bag that is now just barely over 15 lbs.

The cat food went from 17 lbs to 15 lbs to now just a little over 13 lbs.

The price? Still the same. Bastards.

Yeah that's price ambiguity.

Try diapers, the price goes up but they change all the package quantities.

So instead of paying 19.99 for 98 diapers I'm paying 32.99 for 140. just ways to hide the price changes. Same thing with 20 can packs of coke rather than 24 packs

One I just got to enjoy today- high ranking dude wants to schedule some downtime for his equipment, is supposed to schedule it 30 days in advance...waits until the day before to let you know its occuring. Your boss allows him to get away with it. End result- your shift is altered to accomodate- never mind your plans.

I came up with two more. 1) The misuse and abuse of the phrase "I know. Right". Most of those that say it, don't know, but feel the need to say something, so choose that. Saying "I know. Right" with correct punctuation and not making it sound like a question is fine. The goofy "I know right?" is grating, along with the "IKR" acronym. Much like "awesome", everything is met with "IKR!" Ugh.

2) People that end a sentence with "so..." As if I know what you mean. Even if I did, it's only polite to finish what you started. Instead "so..." is used as a form of punctuation.
then never shuts up long enough for either of the 2 original people to get a word in and jsut keeps going on and on about everything other than what ya was talking about in first place .... i call them people listeners ... they just like to listen to their own mouth run and cant hear anyone else .. ohh and if ya say anything like hey can we finish talking .. your the jerk who's rude for interrupting them .. young kids can do it but they don't really know any better yet but when adults do it .. just makes me wanna introduce the side of their head to a brick on a stick
I'm sorry Zook, but I had to do that after your comments. :P I agree though.
