DIY Dry Transfer Decals?

Post by tmlindsey » Mon Apr 23, 2018 3:50 am

Hey Guys!

I've never done decals before but have a possible need for some and they would need to be dry transfer specifically.

Has anyone ever done their own DT decals with any success?

Thanks!

Apparently there were several options for making DIY dry transfer decals but I'm finding that the government placed restrictions on the chemicals in recent years, so most discontinued the sheets.

There are a couple of places left but one leaves a "halo" around the decal unless you cut it exactly and the other requires a specific laminating machine and is very expensive.

Near necro-bump!

Ian Lawrence — whose 1:350 Refit builds are, IMHO, second to none — did a build with custom dry transfers, and they turned out beautifully:

He used a system called DecalPRO FX:

Apparently, one can also do metallics, but I suppose that's also contingent on having access to a particular type of printer (the name of which escapes me at the minute) that can print metallics and white.
