Thought it was apt....
So let me get this right, someone created a Facebook/Social Media group called "All Scale Trek" to benefit the forum in an unofficial capacity (IE Xen not knowing about it) in an effort to drum visitors to the site. Everyone who knew didn't say which created the view of some sort of migration (This is first I know about this btw for the record as I've just come on to update some threads this evening and seen an inbox full of messages) I can sort of appreciate that as I've spent hours working on ships in the past only to find out someone else is ready to publish (Xindi ships were the last of my Enterprise line for 1400 until Lakespeed posted finished kits) I felt !!!!!!!! I'd spent time making the models in 3D and everyone by I seemed to know about them. - They are very good kits though and if you can get them I'd recommend them! So I get that point if the context is the same.
I'm a retail manager (for my sins) by trade and over the past few years have seen a strong migration to online, this is relatable in this scenario, as it lowers footfall so we have set up Social Media links and ties to drum followers, run events and encourage people to the store (as well as the online outlet).
I can therefore see the pros of using social media as links to the site can be posted and vise versa (If you paste a HTTP: link on facebook, it'll automatically generate links/thumbnails etc from the page linking) you can also have a 'Share' function on the posts here to link to people's Facebook accounts
For the record I'm not siding, I'm not even sure why I'm commenting to be honest as I don't want to restart/encourage a shitstorm. I guess the reason why is over the past what, eight years I've been doing modelling full on with community support/encouragement and pride a lot of you I've come to respect, have a laugh with and happy to call friend. The support people have provided by buying my kits and showing off the final works like ElGato DeepSpacePat and others is a testimate to that.
End of the day I don't want to see people say I'm leaving because of a bad situation, life too short. Trust me as past couple of years have made me realise how limited the mortal coil is, and !!!!!!!! like this, really? Your here because you enjoy modelling in some form either casual, pro or vocation and everyone has their group of friends within the community here.
Yes it's been quiet, but people aren't glued to the internet (well unless your playing Fortnite it seems (I'm not btw)) but people spectate and chat when they wish to contribute.
AST is tired, I don't mean that rudely by any means, It's had the same logo since day one, same colour scheme, loads of pinned posts that mean you have to scroll down loads before you see the newer posts. Why not spice it up a bit, change the colours unpin years old threads, give it a tidy up, hell I didn't even notice the competition area until this evening and based on entrants I can't be the only one...
Social media ties can't be a bad thing, maybe someone maybe not Xen as he has a lot on his plate, can run a Twitter feed and cherry pick posts with a link and hashtag like.... "Joeblogs has made an impressive build of the #USSVoyager as seen in #StarTrekVoyager by #Revell !! Click here to see more pics" and attach a couple to bring awareness/followers.
Same as Facebook, at the moment AST is word of mouth, if you know it's here great, if you don't you may never will unless you chat to someone who is a member here. Use it as a promotional tool rather than something to be fearful of.
Record, I'm not taking sides, just throwing my two cents as I don't want people falling out over big personalities/opinions or whatever you want to call it, I started reading messages, but have skipped to the end as it was getting very confused. If torches and pitch folks come my way, please ensure you have a packet of marsh mellows so we can all relax and roast them. I don't want to be pulled into this.
I come to think of this forum as a family, and it kinda feels like an all mighty family feud is happening. Lets let dust settle and continue to enjoy the medium that brought us all here in the first place.
