Borg Cube Build lots of pics

Post by Trustysworld » Fri Aug 12, 2016 10:40 am

reworked the borg cube a bit as I didn't like that it couldn't be lit without a lot of cutting filing and thinning of the panels on it so this was what I had come up with...

only needs a laser to finish her up and some slight detail painting!

Enjoy this WIP

It gives me the chills.
There are Times, Sir, when men of good Conscience cannot blindly follow orders. You acknowledge their sentience, but ignore their personal liberties and freedoms. Order a man to hand over his child to the state? Not while I"m captain.

Nice work! I have to admit when I looked at that first photo I thought you had made a Borg Cube storage unit. Then I realized I was just seeing the guts for the sphere lighting.

this is AWESOME!
is this the WarpModels cube from FederationModels/StarshipModeller?
a clone?
or, is this a 3D printed cube, or lazer-etch/photoetch cube etc?
maybe some other kit, as the Eaglemoss or another?

as a borg fan,
this is AWESOME to see.
your lighting sphere and diffusion grille is awesome too!
its got that yellowy-green and white just right!
the thinning of the panels was great too!
it feels like you can see deeper into the cube, just like on the show!

in trying to make a decoupage cube,
based on pepakura templates,
i went;
outer detail photoetch -> clear or black pla 3d print plate -> oht/transparent architectural 'detail print decal interior' -> diffusion matting (white protective paper) -> lightsource.
i had the opposite problem to thinning - i needed to block off light on the different layers hehe.

the MEDs are controlled by a raspberrypi, so can 'flash' in green, yellow,
or red when destroyed and damaged! :D
ideally, the red MEDs are placed near a corresponding red/yellow/orange 'damaged' transparent decal between the light and the outer layer.

that is mainly so as to make it disassemblable for transport and storage.
the internal lighting is ideally run from an inductor plate/inductor mat, so it is 'wireless'.

your escape tunnel for the sphere glows just like in ST:FC or ST:Online!

I'm looking forward to seeing the diorama complete,
and any other borg ideas you come up with! :borg2:
maybe, a borg tesseract, a borg tetrahedron,
borg pylon
a borg pentahedron,
a 127cell-form...
maybe even a unimatrix?

This was originally a warp models cube but as everyone knows the resin was crap and very much brittle so when I was making a mild I made some appropriate changes to allow for lighting by mixing opaque and clear resin in the same cast giving the affect shown in the pictures also the sphere used to be solid 1 peice molding I wanted it lit as well so I cast it the same way

Props to you for incorporating the stand holding the Enterprise as a tractor beam! :) Love it!
