USS Enterprise NCC-1701 from 3 Ship Set

Post by trekriffic » Fri Oct 26, 2012 4:56 pm

This is my 1/1600 scale Enterprise from the original AMT 3 ship set. I did some accurizing to the saucer, secondary hull, and nacelles.

Actually, I would say you did a LOT of accurizing.
I haven't held that kit in my hands for years, but from my memory you completely reworked the clamshell shuttlebay doors, obviously added nav/formation lights, it looks like you reconfigured the secondary hull where the pennant is located, I can see several changes to the nacelles, and several more areas where my memory is too fuzzy to know for certain.

I love posts like this. Something a little different, with what is obviously a lot of craftsmanship and attention to detail.

The original model is a rough approximation of the general shapes at best. You made it shine, and gave it a top-notch finish to boot.

Care to share a list with us of some of the corrections you made? All that hard work deserves a nod of appreciation.

Well Kratok, you made me dig mine out to share a couple of photos, and you were correct about the clamshell. Trekriffic, that doesn't even look like the same kit. Amazing, really. 8-)

Well guys I had typed a whole book detailing the changes that I made to this kit to make it more accurate and when I hit the submit button it told me I wasn't logged on which I know I was. After logging on everything I'd written was erased! :o
So, suffice to say, it was a lot of typing for nothing. :x
Basically the changes postulated in previous posts concerning the saucer, nacelles, secondary hull (especially the fantail), etc were right on the mark. Virtually nothing except the shape of the B-C deck was left unchanged.

Wow, very nicely done. I love your paint work that you did on the bussards as well as the weathering effect you achieved. Do you have any in progress photos?

I finished the "refit" of the original model over 6 years ago before I got in the habit of taking work-in-progress photos so I'm afraid there are none to be had. Here are a few more pics though of the finished model...

That is a very impressive little model you've got there, trekriffic. 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

I had that kit as a kid, and even though I only do gaming minis these days, I remember the inaccuracies like the crosshatch panels on the inside of the nacelle struts being on the outboard side! Plus how the struts went into the secondary hull. So kudos to you for the work that went into this model.

Plus, I can't believe how close the Micromachines Botany Bay is in scale to this kit!

WOW that is stunning and if you had't said it was the old three piece kit I would have sworn it looked like a resin kit, and again simply stunning work.
