RM Contender WIP

Postby mophius » Sat Aug 05, 2017 6:19 pm

I managed to coerce Adam into pouring some resin for me a few months ago. He did the Contender and the Constellation for me which I was really grateful for.
He told me that the moulds were shot really and that the outcome may not be workable but he did very well with them.

The Contender was the precursor to the Constellation so I decided to build them in that order.

On first inspection there were a few bubbles on the saucer but manageable. The biggest problem was the front shuttlebay doors which still need to be filled again.
Nacelles were slightly warped but I managed to heat them up in hot water and re-shape them before dunking them in cold to set them.
The secondary hull needed flattening on the rear face and then the rear section I flattened for the mating surface. There was very little filling I needed to do on that join to make it seamless.
I have assembled the Secondary hull parts as a unit and I have assembled the nacelles with the pylon to make painting easy. Again I took this to work to put some primer on. I will take photos later on tonight so you can see progress and problems I need to overcome.
There is no dark side of the moon really, matter of fact its all dark.

I have been working on my Contender on/off for the past several years. I'll be following this thread closely. Looking forward to see what you do with it.

Doing some detailing.
Warp coils were done starting with silver as a base then the blue on top.
Same with the Impulse exhaust but with bronze first then bright red.
Deflector dish was also silver then light blue.
Almost there, just need to do underside of the saucer.

Some more detailing tonight and I think that will do for that. Next job will be to get some Finish on her so I can get the decals on.
