Round 2 NX-01 Kit Review

Postby Scotchyn » Tue Jul 04, 2017 6:50 pm

Here is my review of the new Round 2 NX-01

I like the box art, minimalist, but showcases all the 2500 scale Enterprises that are available

The decals for the NX-01, yes they are dark..more on that in a sec

The top and bottom of the primary hull is very well molded, very minimal flash along the separation lines. The detail is very nice and crisp, again we can argue how visible this would be at 2500 scale, but it looks good(to me anyway)

Again you can see that the molding is really good, the detail really shines through, especially on the nacelles. there are small tabs that connect the nacelles to the pylons that had a small amount of flash, which will need to be removed as it interferes with the fit(note it is very very thin so be careful trimming)

As for assembly and painting, it was very simple and straight forward. The parts all fit together perfectly with no fit or gap issues. I decided not to paint the ship in any base coat, i only painted the highlights, the nacelles, the deflector dish, bridge, sensor dome, and the "P-38 Superchargers". I decided to do this to see if the "molded in color" would work as intended

oops someone forgot to paint the impulse engines......

Over all, i was very pleased with how it turned out. However between the decals and the base color, its a bit dark(the lighting makes it look not as dark)...but still turns out a good looking model of the ship
Would i recommend..of course, but the 75.00 price(mine was 55.00 due to a damaged box) is steep for the one new kit..granted you get all the Enterprises, but most of us already have multiple copies of those.
On a side note, notice the difference in these kit included decals for the Galaxy:

the one on the left is the new release, on the right is the old release. The newer follows the darker scheme from Generations i believe, also the Ambassador decals were toned down, but the plastic the ship is molded in is even a brighter "aquaish" color...may post photos of that later....

Hope you enjoy the little quick review..here are a couple notes from talking to James Hood from Round 2

The NX-01 WILL be available in the future in a 3 ship set, the contents of which are not determined...but he did mention that he'd love to get the TOS Connie redone, so take that with a grain of salt. He did mention that there will be additional 2500 kits in the future, but they are still planning those out.

Ill leave ya with a couple of pics comparing it to the F-Toys release from a few years ago

Looks realy good.
But, personally, I'll pass. I have ALL the canon Ents already.
What I do want is the NX-Refit, if they ever make/release it, before I decide to scratchbiuld the secondary hull for an F-Toys Nx.

Great review there buddy. :D
Laterz...

Wait, you didn't paint it? :jawdrop:

But thanks for the preview. I've been wondering about that little bugger

Freakin trench warfare. Flander's fields had fewer ditches.

I bet those trenches would tone down nicely with a good base coat and a nice metallic sheen top coat. You could even do a black base and then "pre-shade" the trenches a lighter color which wouldn't be as shadowed after a top coat. It would lighten them up a bit and make em not look so dark. Lot's of work for a simple 1/2500 ship, but you know, if you have the time and such.. I'll end up getting one, but I REALLY want the NX refit also. That'd be the one that ties it into TOS a lot smoother.
i don't know. I'm making it up as I go.

I'm gonna have to find some of that stuff. I keep seeing references to it, but never saw it in person.

I had to buy it on line. It is good. A finer texture than Squadron white.
