And now, a fibre optics question

Hey chaps,

So I learned this week (the hard/inconvenient way) that CA glue and fibre optics are not best friends, by any stretch of the imagination.

Can FO be glued in place with regular model glue (I've got the Revell Contacta stuff), or will I need to pony up for a hot glue gun?

Well, after a quick test, the answer is an unequivocal 'no' to Revell Contacta. It didn't take long for the FO test strand to go snappy-snappy.

Hot is the only way to go for FO.
If you are quick and good you can slightly bend the FO while the glue is still warm to get it into shape for the LED. I have not managed this yet only snapping the FO causing more problems for later and having to remove the glue and broken FO.

Hot glue works like mophius said. Also two part epoxy. White glue will work too but it takes a while to dry.

Another alternative for attaching fiber optic strands to an LED is UV light cured acrylic.

I haven't personally used it yet (I have a Republic Star Destroyer that needs fiber), but the theory of it looks promising and inexpensive.

Might’ve been a bit of confusion, though: I was asking about attaching FO to Styrene. I ended up going with hot glue, that sorted me.
