Well the storm put a few projects on hold, but I'm getting back to some model work and I remembered that I haven't posted anything about my Starcrafts order!

Anyway. I'd ordered a new 1400 scale Akira, a new 1400 Enterprise A so I could try my homemade decals on that, and finally.......a 1400 Excelsior. WITH NEW STARCRAFTS DECALS!

I'm going to write up a little blurb about them on my blog this weekend, but here's a peek at the pictures. Short version is: I like them. And I'm DEFINITELY looking forward to using them.

Super excited! I got mine, and I'm torn! Do I go and finish my E-D, or jump to this?! Arg!!!! #ModelerProblems

But yeah, I think I'm going to do the E-D, then this. And, hopefully by then, Dennis will have the E-B ready to go. My Refit ones are still in progress....

They're really nice, and printed well. They look like they're going to fit nicely; the model that Dennis sent me actually had some test decals applied to the bare resin to see how the fit was looking!

My only fear about these decals is in the not-very-subtle paneling on the secondary hull. It's clear he's toned this down tremendously compared to similar panels on the plastic kit, but I'm iffy on the odd block shapes. I'm reserving judgement, though, until I see them actually applied to the hull.

My original Excelsior was done up in straight model master duck egg blue. It looks pretty good, but I think I may lighten it up with this build to 50% white and 50% DUB. Here's the original.....what do you think.

Rick, your Excelsior looks great. But I agree - for scale effect, I would tone down the blue just a tad.

As for the new decals....Oh, wow.

I have been waiting years for these. They look fabulous! I may finally get to put an Excelsior on the shelf.
