Agreed. I know some people like to use studio models as their template and I get that, I prefer to always go with how the ship looked on screen because that to me is how it most likely looks "in universe", and to me the E-D we saw every week was grey, grey, grey. I love this Aztec job, I also like the one IndianaCook did in the newbie gallery with the on-screen grey Aztecs from Acreation. I don't mean to knock any of the awesome jobs with the Round 2 Aztecs and/or green aztecing that some people have done here, they just never look quite right to me.Tesral wrote:I like the subtler aztecing. Too many jobs look like toys the paint is so loud.

Coming out of modeling hibernation I realized I never followed up on this. I finished this baby about a year ago, and then I moved. Here are some pics of the final build and completed shots. There are no real “glamour” shots yet because I can’t seem to do it justice. I’m VERY happy with the final result.

Final thoughts, the build is not perfect by any means, but I'm still happy with the result. As I said in the initial post, I brush painted everything the way I would have as a kid. Because I glued the dorsal "neck" piece crooked many years ago, the completed model is a bit crooked now that the saucer is attached. I also had to glue the model to the stand, because it wouldn't hold on its own. I'm not too happy with that but may come up with another solution later. All in all it's nice to have a completed model that carries so much history from my childhood and life as a modeler.

That's a brilliant Aztec paint job, it's so easy to over do it (mine included) and be too contrasty but that sits just right.

She looks great! Great choice on the colors for the Aztec pattern. Very close to the one I use. Clean work.
