USS Von Braun, NCC-1978 - Oberth-class

Postby Griffworks » Tue Mar 28, 2017 5:19 am

The UGH! Models 1/1000 scale Oberth-class kit. No extra changes in this, she's being built straight out-of-the-box.

I have one. Well, the Delta Quadrant release. This kit has been around since the Pleistocene! Pretty cool to see one being built. I think I have only found two other examples on the internet.

This is NOT the same kit as the DQ kit. It's an entirely new kit, drawn and 3D printed by us at UGH! Models. I should know, I cast both the DQ kit and this one.

My apologies. I had assumed it was, as others had bought DQ masters... and I know there is a thread about it, but I haven't read it yet. Been living in a little world of my own the last few months.

Still, you really don't see many Oberths on the internet.

Updated pics of the Von Braun.

Painting has commenced, with the base coat of Tamiya rattlecan TS-27 Matt White.

I’ve thought about adding Phaser emitter “bumps”, as it’s indicated in ST:III that Grissom has weapons “will she fire on us”...? Thinking of adding two of them to the lower saucer to that they have at least a fore and limited port and starboard arc. Not heavily armed at all, mostly just enough firepower to defend herself, maybe drive off some pirates.

Lots of clean up work to do. Some of the masking tape didn’t hold properly.

I’ve often wondered if those six tubes are meant to be probe / photorp tubes...?

Areas here where I should’ve used masking tape....

More work to do. LOTS more....

And, of course, more to come.
