8-) Dabass ship!

Huh. It's all over and I missed it. Damn.

Great to see Abaddon finished. I just love her. Probably a bit late chipping in, but I don't see a problem with the pennant turrets. Many 24th century ships have phaser firing arcs that approach a full 360 degrees around the ship, so there is nothing wrong with adding an extra two turrets to fill a gap in Abaddon's firing arc. These "experts" at the Trek BBS must think a Federation ship should only be able to fire directly fore and aft.

Thanks for your input on the pennant turrets. I like the idea of them being flush to the hull and only popping up when engaging in combat. Maybe I'll punch out a couple of small discs, apply some leftover pennant stripe decal, and mount them to some brass rod for inserting in the holes to show them in retracted mode.

BTW... she's not quite finished yet if you consider the base as part of the model. Once I get the base done I'll be posting a lot more pics. Also, I want to try and take shots from various angles against a space backdrop that I can incorporate into a "graphic novel" type thread. Something showing the ship in action, maybe show some D-7s meeting a bad end at the hands of Captain Tatenen. Should be fun!

Here are the finished images (and a video) of my bashup of two 1/1000 scale Polar Lights kits to create the USS Abaddon, NCC-2124, an original series Goliath class dreadnought.

Backstory...
The second ship in her class and arguably the most powerful vessel in known space.
Launched in 2270 near the end of the Federation-Klingon Cold War.
Constructed inside a secret facility deep within the Rigellian asteroid belt thru a joint effort of Starfleet Command and Section 31.
Heavily armed and armored.
Hull is virtually indestructible with composite carbon-neutronium cladding and anti-proton beam weaponry based on the salvaged hulk of the Doomsday Machine.
Also equipped with standard, heavy, and mega-phasers.
Cloaking capability based on captured Romulan technology.
Uses a three layer regenerative deflector screen system.
Powered by dual warp cores and four fusion reactors.
Mission is to patrol the Klingon border and Romulan neutral zone, engaging and defeating enemies of the Federation and its allies.
Advanced tactical targeting sensors allow the Abaddon to lock onto and disable or destroy multiple enemy vessels simultaneously.
Acts as a "wedge buster" during fleet-to-fleet engagements, causing chaos and disarray within the enemy ranks.
Named for the biblical angel of vengeance and lord of the bottomless pit in Revelations.
Commanded by the legendary Karis Tatenen, aka the "Hero of Vonra" and "Destroyer of Klingons".
A brilliant tactician and tormented soul.
Lost his wife and eldest son ten years earlier to a sneak attack while they visited a colony on the Federation-Klingon frontier.
Dedicated to making sure the Klingons atone for their actions against the Federation... and his family...

Anyway, the pics:

I have lots more pics to post...for those who haven't had enough already!

Indestructible Video:

https://youtu.be/zUlW1f61gyY

Below are the lyrics to the song playing in the background on the video.
It just seemed so perfect for this ship and her captain...

Another mission
The powers have called me away
Another time
To carry the colors again
My motivation
An oath I've sworn to defend
To win the honor
Of coming back home again
No explanation
Will matter after we begin
Unlock the dark destroyer that's buried in me
My true vocation
And now my unfortunate friend
You will discover
A war you're unable to win

I'll have you know
That I've become

Indestructible
Determination that is incorruptible
From the other side
A terror to behold
Annihilation will be unavoidable
Every broken enemy will know
That their opponent had to be invincible
Take a last look around while you're alive
I'm an indestructible master of war

Another reason
Another cause for me to fight
Another fuse uncovered
Now, for me to light
My dedication
To all that I've sworn to protect
I carry out my orders
With not a regret
A declaration
Embedded deep under my skin
A permanent reminder
Of how we began
No hesitation
When I am commanding the strike
You need to know
That you're in for the fight of your life

You will be shown
How I've become

Indestructible
Determination that is incorruptible
From the other side
A terror to behold
Annihilation will be unavoidable
Every broken enemy will know
That their opponent had to be invincible
Take a last look around while you're alive
I'm an indestructible master of war

I'm...

Indestructible
Determination that is incorruptible
From the other side
A terror to behold
Annihilation will be unavoidable
Every broken enemy will know
That their opponent had to be invincible
Take a last look around while you're alive
I'm an indestructible master of war

Indestructible
Determination that is incorruptible
From the other side
A terror to behold
Annihilation will be unavoidable
Every broken enemy will know
That their opponent had to be invincible
Take a last look around while you're alive
I'm an indestructible master of war
