1/2500 Klingon D7

Postby mophius » Sun Jan 15, 2017 10:28 am

Also made a start on this one last night.
Here it is on the sprue.

And cut off the sprue.

I noticed that one of the nacelles had not formed properly on the aft face. I started to file away at it but was not able to make a decent job of it. So I decided to file it completely flat which doesn't look too bad. Mafe the other nacelle the same and may add something putty-wise tomorrow.

I then washed all the parts and left to dry. More work on this later.

The liquid green went on so well on the Romulan Bird of Prey that I decided to give the D7 a couple of coats around the hull and neck gaps. Also put some around the necelle joins too, just me being picky I suppose.

Made some progress tonight. Finally.

The green is a stock Humbrol Acrylic but the grey I had to mix. Just the nacelles and a few touch-ups to do now.
I hope it dries well.

Nice work. I have the Johnny Lightning D7 myself. I thinks it's the same size.

Thanks.
I put a coat of gloss lacquer on today at work and caught the underside front of the neck. I will have to rub that down gently before applying a matt laqueur to take some of that sheen away. Also have two parts on the underside of the main body that are, for some reason, down to the undercoat. Both are on an edge so it has sat on something. Wonder if I can touch those in before that too.

Did you lay it down to spray the clearcoat? It's always better to suspend it somehow. For these small ships I usually drill a hole in the underside near the base of the neck and glue in a piece of styrene tubing so I can insert a brass rod to hold it with while I spray it.

I had it on an upturned aerosol lid so that it only touched in three places. Maybe I turned it over too quickly after a coating. I gave it two coats and I had a portable bar heater 18 inches away so that it dried quickly and was sure it was at least an hour before i turned it over.
The two marks on the rear I am sure are travel damage
