1/1400 AMT/ERTL USS Enterprise NCC-1701-C

Postby Dr_Corsa » Thu Jun 08, 2017 9:18 pm

Hello!

So, the next ship, the blue one Ambassador class Enterprise C, seen only in one episode.

I buyed this ship together with my 1400 D, E and DS9 Station aprox 17 years ago. Also the kit was assembled at this time many sears ago by my young me.

Painting: like all another ships I used Revell and Humbrol colors. Also I worked with brush only, you can see it very good on naccelles :D. Now I see, my ship has not all blue strips on the lower section..something to do - next.

Decals: the genuine AMT decal sheet plus 4 decals from Enterprise D also in 1400 scale and aftermarket decals for all escape pods. Also the ship needs 4 more decals and one of them I still waiting for: the shuttle bay decal.

Conclusion: well the ship is very well. A strong design should clouse the gab between the B and the D. I also like the blue color very much, nice! And also work for me: to repaint the base  .

Have fun!
Michael

Great job on the hand painting. Especially on the saucer. My hand is not nearly steady enough to paint those rings, so I have to use decals for that!

Very good job! Do you do the contours with a steady hand or do you mask it before to paint?
:)
Thanks,

Yan.

Hi!

No mask, only via hand. You can see it very good on the engines: in my opinion they are very horrible...

I see... I don't think that it's 'very horrible' though! Actually very decent job IMO.

;)

I am asking it because I divorced of my airbrush and kicked it out of the door!

The reason is that I figured out that airbrushing was making me to hate the hobby and the only way of I keep doing it is changing the way as I lay paint down over the models. In short, I quited airbrushing but decided to give a little more chance to modeling. So I am going to try paint from now on with rattle cans and hand brushes.

:)

From what I have observed the best way to achieve good results with brushes is to use very thinned paint in successive layers with a wide brush for base color and a combination of mask, thicker paint and a smaller brush for the details...
Thanks,

Yan.

Very nice build Dr. Corsa. Are you going to do the windows too?

Good to know, good to know! I have been using airbrush in the last 10 years but never managed to use it correctly. While it may seem to be easy like sugar candy for some for me it's nearly impossible. In my particular case I have difficulty to find the right thinning for the paints and my worse times is when I thin them too little and the airbrush gets clogged forcing me to disassemble and clean it inside. It may not seem too serious to the point of someone give up about airbrushing (as I did) but imagine it happening to a person that uses the airbrush only for 15 minutes each two weeks or so. It may be really frustrating. I am not blaming airbrushing for my own incompetence though. I just recognized that it's not the kind of tool to be in the hands of someone that doesn't dedicate time enough to master its use (me! me!!!! MEEEE!!!!!).

:P

Anyway, I just hope that I can obtain some minimally decent quality after "downgrade" back to hand brushing!

Thanks,

Yan.

Hi!

No, they are ready :). I filled night color in each window. They are glowing in the dark. I do it woth all my ships. I do not really love the LED illumination...

And by the way: I added some decals on my ships and here are the changes on 1701-C.

Greeting,
Michael
