R2/PL Refit Yorktown (by Ironman150) VOTE!
Or Maybe Enterprise A depending on the decals. The perfect excuse for a straight build and learning to decal aztek patterns. This will force me to just get it done and not get bogged down by the minutia of little decisions. Now, to go buy the kit. I was thinking about the re-release of ENT-B, but 2 others a building Ent-B and you can never have too many Enterprise Refit Kits. Pictures to follow.

Re: 1/1000 R2/PL Refit Yorktown
Unboxing and looking at all the parts. I still have to look into alternate registry decals. Only 3 pages of decals, shoudl be easy?! This is my first attempt as such intricate decals so it will interesting to see how it turns out. I had bought the 1/2500 scale ships for adventures in decaling But I think 1/1000 may be a bit easier. Lovely white parts. Weird Trees. Next up, subassemblies
Decals!

Re: 1/1000 R2/PL Refit Yorktown
So the instructions say to paint the ship pearl white, but to me this seems to bright of white for what I see when I watch the movies. To tone it down, I am going to prime white, then paint US Insignia white, Then future, then decals, then future again to seal the decals then clear pearl over top.
But first... Assembly and PUTTY! Gasp!

By the looks of them, the decals in that kit go on in two layers. Have you considered putting the pearl between the azteking and marking layers?

Hmm. That is an interesting thought. But looking at the instructions the decals are just one layer.

If the lettering is seperate from the Aztec decals. I would suggest applying the Aztec, seal then pearl. Then apply the lettering and pendants. What I did for my 2500 Enterprise E and for my 1000 NX Enterprise.

That is a very good Idea. When I think about it sticking one wet decal on a dry one can only end poorly. here is the paint , mostly. I still need a duck egg blue (mine was dry) and the bottle of Future is not shown. also need to decide about the Yorktown decals.

Progress!!
I have glued the pylons, primary hull, and nacelles together. Since it is not I did not spray the inside of anything.
I also frosted the clear parts. I am looking to see which clear parts I need to mask and which I can paint and set aside.
Next is to sand and putty. all the seams are really quite good But I know I'll need some putty or some gap filling super glue to fill gaps where the snap in bridge and sensor dome go.
I've used my favorite Tamiya Super Thin model cement throughout. More pics when I finish sanding.
