That, sir, is a MASTERFUL rendition. Your weathering really brings the subject to life.
Outstanding.

Thanks guys! Appreciate the compliments. She turned out pretty much how I wanted I think.

Holy crap. The attention to detail is incredible. So much care was put into the model from the very first stages. Dipping them in soapy water!? The paint looks professional to me. Ship that off to Paramount for filming. And congratulations on winning the contest!

Thanks! Attention to detail is what differentiates average from above average model builders in my mind and I thank you for the compliment. This kit has a lot of flaws in the fit of the parts and it can be a real tester. It sat unbuilt for many years because I just didn't know if my skills were quite up to it, especially doing the weathering. Then I started practicing using Tamiya pastels on other builds until I got to the point where I thought I could tackle the Bird. The weathering is what gives this ship character; she's given years of reliable service to the Klingon Defense Force and she shows it. I have a background in fine art, you see, and I treat the model's surface as I would a canvas.
The soapy water trick was something I heard about on another forum some years ago for removing residual mold release.
