I use CorelDraw and I separate the font into the layers (3 for regular letters, 6 for the letters that have "holes" i.e.. P, O, D, Q, B, A, R)

Back layer is red, then a layer of white, then top layer is black - takes some time for each letter, but keeps the scale-ability good

Would you have to draw the letters from scratch or is this something you can do with an existing font?

I was just testing the method Tesral suggested and thought I would share the results. The modified text does indeed seem to scale fairly well. The largest is 80 points in size. Inkscape automatically made the red outlines a seperate layer; so to make the other four sets smaller I had to change their width and height, rather than the number of points, because the red layer doesn't seem to count as text.

This is great. I am going to save a tonne of money on decals, not to mention postage. :D

trial and error, helps you learn what to, and what not to, do

Indeed. This was the easy part. The hard part has yet to come.

True!

I already have started drawing some stuff for my refit Saladin. I'm sure as hell not going to break my eyes rearranging 2500 scale letters. Not if I can help it.

Thanks again for the help, guys!

I use the same method as MEATLOAFr.

Recently I remade completely the set of decals for TOS Enterprise 1/650 (old Ertl kit) and also the 1/1000 Excelsior. Of course I made an extra set for Enterprise B.

If someone want a copy just PM here. You will need Corel Draw 11 or later.
Thanks,

Yan.
