If you want to help AST read this!

Postby Xen » Tue Sep 12, 2017 5:23 am

I'm looking at assemebling a team of folks to get some ideas going, help me flesh out a few of my own, help out with little tasks and more demanding ones.

We tried a dev team of sorts waaaaaaaaay back when, but that didn't really work out.

We don't need Mods because to be honest, this place runs itself for the most part.

Publicly, what we do need are leader types. Folks with a natural charisma that enjoy motivating others, can handle pressure and keep the wheels turning when momentum is a key factor. To also help monitor the general health of the community and let the 'team' know if we run into a problem.

Privately, folks that can brainstorm and help develop existing ideas. People that can help keep the site in a healthy state by monitoring performance, and provide general news and/or updates on any site problems.

Chances are if you're a regular here, you have already met 50% of the criteria. ;) I'm going to keep this as a public topic for now. However, do PM me if you feel that your questions are more suited to a PM discussion.

I can help out a little - I check in at least daily, wither on phone at work or on computer at home

I've been pretty low key the last 6-8 months or so, I think I'm ready to come back and be a contributing member of the AST society again. I might even have a few ideas that I don't think have been tried before.

I would love to, but I'm reluctant for the health reasons that have hit a lot of people here. I'm a touch fragile in that department. If there is something that dropping of the face of the planet will not impact, let me know.

I do check in daily to see any updates and keep an eye on builds that are going on. The only thing I lack is the leadership or charisma part.
I would be willing, if no one else does, to keep an eye on everything and everyone in a purely congenial fashion.

I have too many things on my plate but I can help and assist the leader types who want to step up. I can certify I take direction well. Mostly. Above average, certainly ;)

Maybe I should have said this is a different way. It's not about doing anything 'official' as some kind of leader, or anything involving a heavy workload.

Basically, it comes down to me wanting help from the regulars (new and old members).

I say regulars because hopefully that means you're already emotionally invested enough to do what you do here anyway, but with an extra 20% dedication "to the cause", working with others in the 'team' or independently.

The rest of the community may continue to pop in and out, comment, or just look around. They play their part in helping make this lace tick along.

You can help by doing the following:

Promoting the site to friends (word-of-mouth seems to be most effective)
See how the site performs each week (and if it feels stable)
Posting interesting threads
Build threads
Eye candy threads
Providing your own ideas on ways to promote the site
Providing your own ideas/input of some kind

So, if you're a fan of the site and want to invest a little more of your time, just PM me and I'll add you to the list. :)

In that case, I guess I'm already doing most of these. We can discuss my pay later, Xen ;)

Idea time!

Instead of our standard build contest, hold a lottery!

People who submit a build start to finish in the Lottery Thread get their name in for a draw. By the end of the contest a name is drawn and they win a prize! That way newbies to pros can have a little fun and show off their builds and have an equal chance of winning a prize!
