re private message weirdness

Postby kobayashimaru » Sat Aug 19, 2017 5:31 am

Howdy Xen,
I tried to reply via the PM system re 8/14/17,
however, to a few users, when I attempt to send an AST-PrivateMessage,
that message is held in the 'outbox', but not actually sent.

normally, a Draft that has been 'saved',
will appear in the outbox, but not have been in the 'sent messages' tab.
however, I didn't compose it as a draft.

however, when I've sent other private messages to other AST users, it works...
I can both send and receive.
I can also send messages to myself from myself (such as via GPOPzcx5 etc)

-----
This error has myself and some local AST-users puzzled,
as we cannot recreate it.
ie, it doesn't seem to be a 'block-list' issue, or a puzzle that way.
its also not a draft merge error.

So, any guidance on how to send Private Messages that way?
I can always post a response in thread form (if only we had spoiler/appending partitions, to truncate wordy posts hehe).

I had a message stuck in my outbox for several months - early on I found it was because they haven't logged on and read it yet. But after a good 6 months of them not logging in I just deleted it. Shame, it was free decals for them.

@Meatloafr,
thanks that clears a lot of my befuddlement right up.

so, you're saying it's an authentication thing,
ie, they haven't yet read it... gotcha, that'd explain that then. :D

though, in the past, if you send stuff,
it would be in 'duplicate' -
it would be in the 'Sent Items" tab, in addition to the outbox.
it says sent |datecode| in the outbox tab, though the duplicate pair isn't also in sent messages.
you review the session outbound telemetry, and it confirms having sent a datapacket or several,
I understand you can't send some forms of code snippets etc, so you make sure it isn't browser/3rdhandler translit error. sometimes, that handler'll just dump bloatware and gibberish into the fetchthat-routine.

that's the part which's thrown myself and a couple others for a six hehe.

----
@all
It's not critical, and I understand the context much better now,
it's not an issue with the comms-system, as has happened elsewhere at different points.
|wayback tangent time:
I can remember clunky AOL and local boards, they'd send 50 of the same thing, if you'd saved that as a draft,
or it'd mail-to-all, so you'd have 6000 folks all getting a meme hehe.|
you'd produce the sessionlogs keystrokes, to prove it wasn't an inadvertant bump of a key hehe.
In the hypothetical event there was a communications issue (the impetus for this thread, a perceived comms issue hehe), I would dislike for the other end, to infer I had not replied.

anywho,
thanks again for assisting on that.
I'll be sure to let the local AST-ers at LAN Club also know.
