Moderated Messages?

Postby suwalski » Fri Feb 24, 2017 6:20 pm

How long are messages moderated for? Part of not participating here is that every message I post gets into a moderation queue for some reason.

Cheers,

Well, I also eventually found in a FAQ that you need 5 posts before it's disabled. But that's an obvious obstruction to newbie participation, and it has to be a pain for the moderators.

Spambots are more of a pain. Believe me.

@suwalski
howdy :vulcan:
that is interesting, I'm all for removing barriers to AST participation.
I'm a firm believer that a lot of folks that like Trek and sci-fi would enjoy AST.
from pepakura/papiermache/papercraft and cosplay to props and accurate scale models, AST covers a lot of stuff.
the more awesome models and trek stuff and sci-fi stuff, the better :D
so, any insight you have into your AST experience is immensely awesome, and thanks for sharing it.

If folks are offput by the temporary AST probation period, which is standard procedure on many forumboards and sites these days, then that is a shame.
AST and sharing awesome sci-fi models and meeting fans from all around the world, that's worth the wait.

maybe there could be matched-keys (alphanumeric and image) or captcha or something,
who knows... there might be a win-win so as that present implementation doesn't have to be used anymore,
and if you have some ideas on that suwalski, that'd be awesome to hear :D

I think it's just a spam filter countermeasure;
our content isn't parsed through a cipher or other thing at AST,
and I don't think AST 'retains the metadata' or the such like.
I don't think our PMs or Posts are manually read, or parsed through a safe-assign filter;
being a borg fan :borg: would be tricky, and set off all kinds of flags hehe. robot - no, just a borg fan... :lol:

I agree, it was a what-the at first, but it's just a precaution against having those inane bots or hijackers telling us about things we didn't want or need hehe :lol:
you'll be out of that probation period at warpspeed in no-time!

anywho,
thanks again for the insight into your AST experience,
and I look forward to seeing you around AST, your model projects and the such like :D
perhaps, there are some borg projects?

Funny, I really don't remember to have had my messages moderated when I came aboard...

:?
Thanks,

Yan.

You did, but the moderators were quick on the uptake. It all depends on how much life the moderator at the time has at the time.

Probably they didn't have too much. I mean life.

:lol:
Thanks,

In 15 years running my own forums, I also use the "first few posts must be approved" method. Approving the first 2 posts weeds out the spammers in my experience. Never had a situation where a spammer got through on post #3, 4, or 5.
