Don't forget the "ghost hand" or microscope uses

True. Though, to be honest, IMO the ghost hand was awesome

How come TNG, Voyager and DS9 were lumped together?

I loved TNG but hated Voyager and DS9 (even thought I've seen every episode multiple times  )

I really love TOS too, but seem to love it through eyes from before the mid 80's when special effects and crappy TVs were made for each other.

Oh wait, favorite era... Not favorite series.

I will keep my post out of some form of self punishment.

My favorite is the TOS era.
Starfleet is just that, a fleet. The military arm of the Federation. Yes they explore, but they are trained to fight and to defend the borders. Not talk an opponent to death. Trained diplomats did the negotiating.
Growing up and then serving in the USMC during the cold war, I could see the direct parallels to the real world.
I just finished reading the Vanguard series of books that cover the time around Kirks first two years on the Enterprise. Great stuff! It provides a lot of detail about fleet operations and life out on the edge of Federation space.

I agree. The Vanguard series did bring about a lot of details otherwise missing, and helped tie together some 'prequel' threads.

And explains the excessive Tholian Belligerence.
There are Times, Sir, when men of good Conscience cannot blindly follow orders. You acknowledge their sentience, but ignore their personal liberties and freedoms. Order a man to hand over his child to the state? Not while I"m captain.

I love all Trek, but I have to say, I'm really loving the new Trek, because it is keeping Trek on the map. :)

Rogviler over at SSM has a signature that cracks me up every time I read it:

"I'm the worlds biggest Star Trek fan. I just don't like the original series because it was too campy and cheap. And the movies plainly didn't do the series justice. Not to mention Next Generation, which was too sterile and utopian. I hated Deep Space Nine because it was too slow and pretentious. Don't get me started on Voyager, which was just plain silly and badly-written. I won't even talk about Enterprise, or the JJ Abrams Trek, which both wrecked everything Star Trek is about. But I'm definitely the #1 Trekker."

Movie era. Being a child of the 80's it's my era of Trek, the Trek I grew up on. I just love the designs, sets, props and feel of those first six films. If I could live in any era of Trek, it'd be the movie era.

Thanks, this was a fun thread.
