modified DLM bridge

Post by toejrb »

After mucking with the kit bridge ad nauseam to only middling results, I've opted to use a DLM Constitution Class bridge instead. The two changes I'm going to make to it are:
  1. open up the strobe at the back to accept fiber optic strands
  2. use the Paragrafix PE rear bit
Here's a top view showing the new strobe light housing. The housing is 3/32 stryene tube, sanded almost flush, then opened up to accept 1/16 alu tube.

Yes, still procrastinating on the windows.

I'd hoped that light from the hull would bleed into the gap between the PE bit and the resin part, and illuminate the circle around the docking port plus the two little half-moon window things. Didn't work out. I'll have to run some fiber optic strands up there.

It may not be very Trek, but I kinda like the roughed-up look of the primer and bondo.

Reliant Officer's lounge -- try, try again

Post by toejrb »

So the out-of-scaleness of my scratch O lounge continued to bug me. Back to the drawing board. Here's take 2.
o lounge outside.JPG
Much smaller. The furniture is a mix of styrene shapes. Channel cut on the long axis gave me the cross-section for the couches and chairs. Styrene sheet is the coffee tables. 1/2 round is the bump towards the window. Strip comprises the bar and the end tables.

Here's a picture of the assembly in place.

I'm struck by how unforgiving the camera is in close-up. What looks pretty smooth to my eye is a veritable moonscape through the lens. All respect to the studio guys for building to stand up to that kind of scrutiny.

Hear ya too. I love to make macro photography but when the subject comes to model kits, close up takes are almost always frustrating.

:?

On a side note, I think that if you had use matte paints the result would be better. Gloss paint always shout the imperfections.

;)
Thanks,
